Product review
This Faithfull 6012 block plane is supplied as a single low-angle plane presented in a fine hinged wooden storage box that protects the tool between jobs and during transport. The main casting is grey cast iron, machined to provide a stable, weighty platform for planing tasks. Fittings include brass adjustment hardware for reliable depth control and a traditional wedge/seat arrangement for the cutter.
The cutter is mounted at a low bevel angle of 13.5°, making the plane particularly effective on end grain and when working across difficult grain directions. The blade measures 35mm in width and is sized for detailed trimming, chamfering and veneer or laminate work. The overall length of the plane body is 160mm, giving good leverage while remaining handy enough for one-handed use and tight spaces.
A fully adjustable mouth lets you change from a wide opening for heavier shavings to a narrow gap for fine finishing, helping to reduce tear-out on problematic woods. The plane’s compact profile and brass adjustment nut give users fine control over shaving depth. Faithfull backs the tool with a five-year manufacturers’ guarantee, making it a practical addition for workshop and site use where reliability and portability matter.

Surprisingly useful despite shortcomings
This isn’t a premium maker but it does the jobs I bought it for. After a year and a half it still has a place in my toolkit even though I now own higher-end planes. It has a satisfying heft and the adjustments work smoothly under load. The thumb rests are comfortable and it fits my hand well. You don’t need perfection for routine trimming and this plane provides reliable service for small finishing tasks.

Good performer after a quick hone
Worked fine after a brief sharpening. The wooden case is a nice touch. No sole flattening needed for mine and the adjustable throat helps clear trapped shavings. You can do fine work without owning premium tools.

Arrived poorly finished and needed serious work
Mine arrived with a badly nicked blade that took hours to true and sharpen. The body wasn’t machined square, and the ramp was uneven so the blade skewed through the mouth. I had to file and fit the sole and mouth before it would cut properly. If you don’t want to spend time fixing defects, look elsewhere—this cost me more time than buying a higher-quality plane would have.

Simple and effective hand plane
A straightforward manual plane — excellent product.

Solid once you tune it up
Needed a little setup: the mouth was slightly out and the blade came only moderately sharp, but both were quick fixes. The unit feels heavy and robust. Metal soles can flex slightly with the blade fitted, but overall it planes cleanly after a few minor adjustments.
