Product review

Compact two-pack of over-rail planter boxes designed for decks, porches, balconies and fences. Each set includes two 36" long metal rectangular planter boxes, a pair of adjustable hanging brackets per box, foam padding for contact points, and the hardware needed to assemble and attach the brackets.

Constructed from heavy-gauge metal with a durable powder-coated finish to resist rust and corrosion, these planters are built to withstand outdoor conditions. The finish helps protect against weathering, while the metal body provides a weighty, stable base for soil and plants.

The brackets are adjustable so the boxes can hang over different railing profiles and thicknesses. Because the combined weight of box, soil and plants can be substantial, the manufacturer recommends mounting to railings at least 2" (5 cm) wide for secure support.

High-density foam pads are attached where the planter contacts the railing to reduce scratching or marring of the rail surface. The planter bottoms are engineered with drainage holes to allow excess water to escape and to promote healthier root systems for flowers and herbs.

Exterior dimensions: 36 inches long x 10 inches wide x 9 inches high, providing ample planting depth and room for multiple plants or potted arrangements. The over-rail design preserves ground or deck floor space and lets you create a vertical display of color or culinary herbs along railings and gates.

  • Adjustable brackets fit many railing types
  • Protective foam pads and drainage holes

Cons

  • Requires assembly and basic tools

VerdictThese 36" metal railing planters offer a durable, space-saving way to display flowers and herbs along railings. The powder-coated steel resists corrosion, foam pads prevent scuffs on the rail, and the adjustable bracket fits a variety of rail types (recommend 2" / 5 cm or wider rails once filled). Great look and solid construction

Attractive, heavy-duty planter. Assembly was simple and the braces keep it very steady with no wobble. Very happy with how it turned out.

    Assembly was a real headache

I was frustrated right away. The items arrive in many pieces and the way they expect you to put it together is cumbersome. It felt over-engineered with too many small screws. I was so annoyed I tossed it instead of returning it — too much hassle for me.

  3. Tough (but fair) Grader 5/5

    Heavy, commercial appearance

Substantial weight and a professional look. Feels like commercial-grade quality.

    Would buy again

Very nice planters. Would definitely purchase them again.

Sturdy, but fiddly to put together

    Heavy. Tough to assemble.

Well built; add washers and a ratchet for easier install

I bought two, hung them on my deck railing and liked them so much I ordered two more. The coating and pads protect the metal and railing, and the bottom braces give strong support. Plenty of room for flowers. One hitch: the bottom screw head is a bit small for the slot, so I added 1/4" stainless washers and used a $5 ratchet instead of the tiny Allen key — much easier.

Solid purchase — attractive and sturdy

Exactly what I needed. Assembled easily, feels solid and looks good on the deck.

Handy to move, but check hardware

Nice that it can be moved and hung almost anywhere — fence, gate or railing. Deep enough for planting directly or holding pots. Coating seems protective, but assembly instructions could be clearer and one bolt was missing; easy to replace though. If it weathers well it will be worth it.
