Product review

Heritage biodegradable camp cleaner: This is the concentrated Classic Campsuds formula in the original 4 fl oz trail bottle. The compact size was developed for backpacking and travel and has been favored by hikers and guides for decades.

What’s in the package: a single 4 fluid ounce plastic bottle with a pop-up pour nozzle. The liquid is concentrated — just a few drops create suds for cleaning dishes, cookware, utensils, clothes, hands, hair and body.

Materials and safety: Made from readily biodegradable, mostly plant-derived ingredients that break down naturally. The formula is intended to be lake- and stream-friendly when used and disposed of following outdoor stewardship guidelines.

How to use it: Add a few drops to a wash basin or onto a cloth to clean pots, pans and tableware, or lather for hair and body washing. Produces effective foam in hot, warm or cold water, and works in fresh or salt water. Rinse items well and follow Leave No Trace recommendations for wastewater disposal.

Origin and legacy: The Classic Campsuds formula has been a long-standing option for campers, scouts and travel enthusiasts. Packable and lightweight, it replaces multiple single-use products and is produced in the United States.

Reviews

  1. Zenon N. 5/5

    Worked like soap should

Used in a camper van to wash dishes, hands and hair. Did the job and seemed environmentally considerate.

  2. Douglass or Rebecca Woolf 5/5

    Highly Recommend

Cleans hair well and has a pleasant aroma. Lathers easily and doubles as a body wash. The bottle is small but the concentrate stretches a long way. It can leave hair a bit dry since there’s no conditioner, but for short outdoor use it performs nicely.

  3. S. Wagman 4/5

    Good but pricey

Performs well for dishes and hand washing. Larger bottles offer better value per ounce; the product itself is effective, though I find it rather costly.

  4. Monty Mitchell 5/5

    Reliable for camping pots

I’ve camped inland for decades and this has been my go-to for the last 30 years. Cleans pots and also fine for washing hands.

  5. Onil Paquet 5/5

    Excellent savon tout usage

Savon que j’utilise en voyage et camping depuis des années. Très efficace pour le corps, vêtements et vaisselle en très petite quantité.

  6. DaveFromRichmond 5/5

    Excellent!

Very useful — handles a range of cleaning tasks around camp with one small bottle.

  7. Chris He 5/5

    Essential for backpacking

Perfect size and weight for a three-day trek. It handled dishes, pots and some dirty clothes with just a few drops. Rinses clean without sticky residue and I appreciated that it’s biodegradable. A very useful, versatile travel soap.

  8. Seedawg 5/5

    Nice product

Split into smaller bottles for trail convenience. It cleaned dishes and utensils effectively and worked fine for washing clothes in a bucket. Happy with its performance and that it’s biodegradable.

  9. Jasper Whitted 5/5

    Excellent camp soap

Small, packable and concentrated so it lasts. Smells nice and works well. In cold water you may need a touch more for greasy pots, but the pop-up nozzle prevents leaks and is convenient.

  10. H. D 5/5

A little goes a long way

I’ve carried this on multiple international trips and it’s my go-to travel soap. Good for showering, hair and clothes. Mild scent and rinses clean. Note the size if flying — 4 oz is larger than some travel bottles.

From Pits to Pots — Very Handy

Took it on a camping and sailing trip and it replaced multiple soaps. A few drops made suds for dishes and for a quick post-swim rinse in salt water. Worked on swimwear and skin, and rinsed off in the sea without trouble.

  12. Mister Chief 4/5

    So fresh and so clean

When field duty meant limited access to showers, this was a compact hygiene solution. Smells much better than many waterless options and let me stay fresh while in the field. A solid choice for austere conditions.
