Product review
Contains: one 10-pound bag of sodium carbonate (pH increaser) intended for swimming pool use.
Formula and purpose: This product is sodium carbonate, designed to raise total pH rapidly and reduce the chance of etching or erosion of pool finishes when water becomes acidic. It’s intended for periodic adjustments or larger corrections when pH falls below recommended levels.
How to use: Test pool pH with a reliable test kit. If pH is low (7.2 or below), consult the dosing chart printed on the bag for the correct amount for your pool volume. Pre-dissolve the measured portion in a plastic pail of water and stir until fully mixed. With the pump/circulation running, slowly pour the solution around the pool perimeter. Let the circulation run for one hour after application, then retest pH. If the reading remains low, repeat the pre-dissolve-and-apply steps until the pH stabilizes in the 7.4–7.6 range.
Pros
- Raises pH quickly
- 10 lb bag suits periodic corrections
- Helps prevent surface etching
Cons
- Can clump if exposed to moisture
- Requires pre-dissolving for best results
- Not a daily maintenance chemical
VerdictThis sodium carbonate-based pH increaser is straightforward and effective for correcting low pool pH. It’s sold as a 10 lb bag, dissolves for spot dosing, and when used per the directions will help maintain water in the recommended 7.2–7.6 window and reduce risk of surface damage.

Simple to apply
Followed the directions and added the recommended doses in small amounts. If you dump too much at once it can settle. Worked exactly as intended.

Quick pH improvement
Raised pH rapidly after a few days of balancing. Didn’t need much product for our small, shallow pool and the water cleared up nicely.

Effective with small dose
Only used one pound to correct the level so far. Typically use baking soda, but this was the right choice for a larger raise.

Performs as advertised
Did the job and adjusted pH as expected. No surprises.

Handled heavy rain events
Used a lot during an unusually wet season. The dosing chart was accurate enough even with other chemicals in play. Good value if you buy larger quantities and keep it dry.

Ideal for larger adjustments
Took my pH from about 6.5 up to roughly 7.5 in around eight hours. Mix in a bucket first — it clumps if added dry. I diluted about 12 oz in roughly 4 gallons for easy application.
