What’s included: transmitter (remote), receiver collar unit, set of removable contact points (short and long), adjustable nylon strap with buckle, USB charging cable, and user manual.
Construction and materials: The transmitter and receiver use impact-resistant polymer housings with sealed electronics for submersion protection. Contact points are stainless steel to resist corrosion. The strap is durable nylon designed to resist wear and drying from outdoor use.
Size and fit: The receiver is compact and low-profile to minimize bulk on the dog. Contact points are interchangeable to suit different coat lengths. The system is intended for dogs weighing 10 lbs and up; adjust fit so contacts touch the skin comfortably. The transmitter is pocket-sized with a large central command button and an easy-turn rheostat dial for selecting one of 100 correction levels.
How it’s used: The remote sends commands up to about a half-mile in open terrain. Training modes include audible tone, vibration, and adjustable electronic stimulation with a BOOST function for brief, higher-intensity output when needed. A prominent LED on the collar offers a 1,000-lux beacon for night visibility and locating. A level lock prevents accidental changes during use. Recharge both units with the supplied cable; the system is built to withstand rain, splashes, and full submersion for outdoor work.
Pros
- Precise rheostat with 100 levels and safety lock
- Three feedback modes: tone, vibration, and adjustable stimulation
- Waterproof receiver with bright LED locator
Cons
- May be bulky for very small dogs near the 10 lb guideline

Its central command button, precise rheostat dial with safety lock, and three stimulation options (tone, vibration, adjustable electronic stimulation) let handlers fine-tune responses quickly. The receiver is compact, fully waterproof, and includes a high-intensity LED for locating dogs in low

Strong build, reliable features
High-quality collar with both vibration and stimulation modes. Excellent for focused training sessions and offers long runtime between charges.

Solid, dependable collar for multiple dogs
I’m pleased — after months of use this unit and remote work reliably. It’s rugged and water-resistant, and the audible beep usually gets our Miniature Pinscher’s attention while a gentle vibrate does the trick if needed. Note: although labeled 10 lb+, the receiver felt large on anything much smaller than my 20 lb dog.

Reliable updates over older Dogtra models
After decades using Dogtra, this 280X impressed me. It requires lower settings for comparable effect versus an older model, has a helpful power/beep confirmation on both units, a useful collar light, and excellent battery life. Off-leash recall performance has been outstanding.

Trainer-recommended solution for dangerous chasing
My trainer suggested this to stop my dog chasing cars. The unit handles multiple command types and is straightforward to operate. I started around mid-range stimulation and soon my dog began responding to the beep and vibration alone. Work with a trainer to dial settings for safety and effectiveness.

Refined feel compared with similar models
Compared to my previous unit this feels better finished and sturdier. The transmitter is intuitive — I was comfortable with controls in a few minutes and used it for basic obedience with a cattle dog without fumbling.

Upgraded 280X adds useful field features
As a longtime trainer I appreciate the smaller receiver profile and the added beacon/locate light. The large center nick/constant button is easy to find, the rheostat dial is precise and now has a safety lock, and removable contact points allow non-stimulation handling. It pairs for up to three dogs and switching between them is simple.

Functionality for multi-dog households
I bought the two-dog setup and linked it to an older receiver with no trouble. The stimulation dial is noticeably more accurate, and fitting three dogs to one remote is convenient. Downsides: switching dogs can be fiddly for large hands and side buttons are a bit small.
