Product review

This 13-inch flat-top TSTAK II case is a single-module tool storage solution in DEWALT’s stackable lineup. The unit is made to nest and connect with other TSTAK components using side latches so you can build a customized stack for transporting or storing multiple kits. The top is flat to allow stable stacking and the case is rated to support up to 66 pounds when connected in the system.

Built for portability, each box includes a bi-material, over-molded handle on the top for a comfortable grip and easier lifting. Over-center metal latches secure the lid and resist corrosion, while a steel hinge pin connects the lid to the base. Inside there is enough clearance for a cordless drill, charger, batteries and several hand tools; there’s also a recessed label area for quick identification. Pick-and-pluck foam inserts are compatible for those who want padded protection for delicate items.

The shell is molded from durable polymers for impact resistance while the connecting elements use tougher plastics for system interfacing. Handles are finished with a soft thermoplastic layer for grip, and the units employ steel hardware where strength and longevity are needed. The case is intended for workshop, vehicle, garage or jobsite use and comes with a limited lifetime warranty from the manufacturer.

Pros

  • Modular stackable design for flexible organization
  • Durable construction with metal latches and steel hardware
  • Comfortable bi-material handle and portable size

Cons

    Practical gift for novices

I bought one as a present even though I don’t know much about tools. It’s very practical and the product descriptions were accurate, which made the purchase easy for a gift.

  2. Nota 5/5

    Excellent quality

Excellent product — useful and well made. Far better than cheap imports; quality matters more than quantity.

  3. dmiloc420 5/5

    Longtime user of the system

I own several different TSTAK modules built up over a few years and they’ve all held up. Being able to dedicate each box to a specific type of tool or supply and then stack only what I need makes jobs easier. The system’s portability and organization are its strengths. I’d like to see more variety added, but these have worked very well for me.

  4. A. Stiles 5/5

    Solid quality for the price

Pleasantly surprised by the build for the cost. The plastic is strong but light, with decent internal headroom. The latches have good tension and they mate nicely when you buy multiple boxes. There’s even a label slot to mark contents. If you want foam protection, a 16x12 pick-and-pluck insert fits well.

Handy for converting a truck platform

I used these boxes as supports for a plywood platform in my truck to make a dog-friendly cargo area. Covered the board with mat and carpet, then used a pair of TSTAK boxes to keep the platform level. They held up fine with no damage and make the setup easy to remove when I need the seats back.

    Must-have for TSTAK owners

I own a lot of tools and this is one of my favorite additions. It’s well designed, latches securely, and the stackable system keeps everything organized and easy to move. It feels like a professional product and fits well with the rest of my gear.

  7. João lima 5/5

    Very sturdy and professional

This box is robust, gives off a quality impression, and presents well for clients.

  8. Darin 5/5

    Compact, sturdy organizer

I’m very pleased with this TSTAK II box. It’s the right size to keep a small kit tidy without being cumbersome. The case feels solid and the latches stay shut during transport. It easily fits a drill, charger, spare batteries and a few hand tools, and the handle is comfortable. The flat top stacks well in my van and the side clips lock to other TSTAK units for building a larger set.

  9. Sam Birdsong 5/5

    Sturdy, lightweight and versatile

This case is tough without being heavy. It’s rated to hold up to 66 lbs and I liked it enough to buy a second. The boxes stack perfectly, so I can expand storage as needed. Besides tool storage, I’ve used one for craft and sewing supplies. The yellow color is distinctive and easy to spot.

    Notes on construction and compatibility

I’ve been adding to a TSTAK system and these components integrate well with the smaller ToughCase+ pieces. The cases are mainly polypropylene; connecting latches use ABS, handles are over-molded with TPR for grip, and the locking hardware is steel. Overall, the design balances durability with portability.

    Caution advised

Buyer beware — some listings may not be authentic. Check packaging and seller details.

  12. xabi 5/5

    Good first impressions

These boxes look solid. I’ve had it only a short while and it seems very good; time will tell how durable it is.

  13. Chumly 4/5

    Well suited for hobbyist use

Remember the TSTAK line is aimed at home users and hobbyists; for heavy-duty jobsite abuse I’d pick a tougher system. This box fits my occasional-use kit perfectly. Dimensions are as listed; a MAPP gas bottle and other odd items fit if you work around the handle recess, which does shave off a bit of internal height. It has two carry options which is handy.
