Product review
The C.S. Osborne 106-12 is a wing-style divider supplied as a single, polished steel instrument presented on a card backing for hang display. The package includes the divider itself and the preinstalled tempered spring mechanism; additional attachments are not part of the basic offering.
All moving components are machined from steel and receive a full polish. The spring is carefully tempered to allow smooth, repeatable adjustment while holding position under normal working loads. This product is manufactured in the United States.
The divider opens to a maximum radius of 12 inches, with hardened points suitable for scribing and layout on a variety of materials. Adjustment is achieved via the tensioned spring and the fastening screw at the hinge, allowing the legs to be spread and locked for consistent measuring.
Typical applications include measuring and laying out work in the insulation trade and tin or sheet-metal operations, as well as scribing on wood, paper, and metal. For users wanting pencil-tip compatibility or extreme micro-precision, alternative models or minor modifications may be preferable.

Solid tool but minor tip misalignment
Nice instrument overall. The points don't meet perfectly when closed, which disappointed me, but it was easy to correct. Not ideal for very small circles.

Never got to try it
I packed it into my tool bag but when I went to use it the locking nut was missing.

Screws loosen in transit
The fastening screw tends to back out during transport. I'd suggest a sturdier model for heavy use.

Excellent material, precise hold
I wish there were a pencil-compatible version. The steel is excellent and it holds precisely for scribing wood, paper, and sheet metal.

Divider for insulation work
I work as an insulator and hesitated because of the cost, but I have no regrets—it's the finest divider I've owned.
