Miami was incredibly kind to me. The vegan scene is vibrant and expanding, and I was honored to be invited to speak at the 2016 Seed Food & Wine festival. I stayed at the serene Palms Hotel & Spa in a comfortable room with a view of Miami Beach that greeted me with sunrise each morning. Wandering the beach, soaking up the warm November sun, and taking a swim felt like a perfect break. Read on for highlights from my Miami vegan adventure.

Although I was only in Miami for three days, I left eager to return and explore more of the city’s vegan offerings. On this trip I didn’t have time to visit favorites like Choices, Della Bowls, or Plant Food & Wine, but they’re high on my list for next time. I’m especially curious about Cuban and Haitian vegan spots — if you know any, please share recommendations. There’s also exciting news that Helene Henderson’s Malibu Farm will be opening at the Nobu Eden Roc Hotel soon, which I can’t wait to try. I’m already planning meals for my next visit.

Overall, Miami offered a warm welcome, delightful plant-based food, and inspiring festival moments. I left energized and already imagining the next trip—more restaurants to try, new chefs to meet, and more sunrises from a beachfront room.
