A Jack of All Treats

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’m obsessed with boards. From a simple weeknight brinner board to a festive Pumpkin Snack Board, I’m always looking for creative ways to serve snacks and meals on a board. Building them is fun and my family and friends love digging in.

This Snack-O’-Lantern was such a hit I had to share how I put it together so you can recreate it for fall gatherings. There’s no trick to this treat—just a few thoughtful placement steps to make a playful pumpkin-shaped snack spread.

How to Make a Pumpkin Snack Board

I used a 20-inch round mango wood board with a small handle—it’s the perfect shape and size for this pumpkin layout.

To create the triangular eyes and nose, I used candy-corn shaped cookie cutters as temporary guides. Place the cutters where you want the pumpkin’s features, fill them with the black fruits, then surround them with orange snacks. Carefully lift the cutters to reveal neat triangular shapes. For the mouth I arranged black concord grapes into a smile—so cute and simple.

Pumpkin Snack Board Ingredients and Supplies

Ingredients:

  • black Concord grapes
  • blackberries
  • sharp cheddar cheese, cracker-cut slices
  • cheddar cracker squares (such as Cheez-Its)
  • cheddar popcorn
  • baby carrots
  • orange bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • pumpkin-spice sandwich cookies (or similar seasonal sandwich cookies)
  • cheese balls
  • sweet potato crackers
  • pumpkin-spice yogurt-covered pretzels
  • pumpkin-spice cookies (use the orange-colored ones)
  • dried apricots
  • clementines, peeled and sectioned
  • mini seedless cucumbers, thinly sliced

Additional orange snack ideas:

  • cantaloupe
  • orange veggie straws
  • cheese puffs
  • SunChips Minis or other orange-hued chips

Additional black snack ideas:

  • olives
  • black figs

Supplies:

  • 20-inch round wood board with a small handle
  • candy-corn shaped cookie cutters (or any triangular cutters)

Most of the items I used were from Trader Joe’s, but you can find similar snacks at any major grocery store. I often have my kids help with sorting, peeling, chopping and arranging—the little helpers love being part of the process.

Pumpkin Snack Board Ingredients

I started by placing and filling the black fruit shapes, then lined cheddar slices down the center as the pumpkin’s vertical ridge. From there I built outward with rows of orange snacks, packing them snugly so they hold when the board is moved. Only one pretzel fell out while carrying it to the table—easy to pop back in and enjoy.

Building the Snack-O’-Lantern is as much fun as eating it. Gather your supplies, involve the kids if you like, and arrange the black and orange elements until the board reads pumpkin. Add a bent cucumber slice at the top for a stem. Serve and enjoy!
