Looking for a quick, satisfying meal? This Easy Homemade Alfredo Sauce comes together in minutes and pairs perfectly with your favorite pasta for a family-friendly dinner.
When I’m home with Sofie I often make lunch: sometimes Air Fryer Parmesan Ranch Chicken Tenders, sometimes mac and cheese, and sometimes I improvise. This simple Alfredo was born from one of those improvisations. I used to avoid cooking with cream because it seemed tricky, but once I experimented a little I discovered how straightforward and much better homemade sauce is compared to jarred alternatives.

What you need for this Easy Homemade Alfredo Sauce
I kept the ingredient list short and used pantry staples. You’ll need:
- Butter
- Milk
- Parmesan cheese (freshly grated is best)
- Garlic (minced)
- Optional: salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, basil
For pasta I like whole wheat or veggie-packed varieties for extra nutrition, but any pasta will work.

Ways to make it a complete meal
- Cooked chicken or shrimp
- Steamed broccoli (we add this often)
- Cherry tomatoes, spinach, or other vegetables
- Pesto or a spoonful of pesto stirred in for extra flavor
- Pine nuts for texture
How to make Easy Homemade Alfredo Sauce
Start by melting butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the milk and minced garlic, then bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan, keeping the sauce moving so the cheese melts smoothly. Continue whisking until the sauce thickens slightly. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of Italian seasoning if desired.

Pour the sauce over cooked pasta and toss until the noodles are coated. Add your chosen mix-ins—broccoli, cooked chicken, or a handful of spinach—and finish with additional grated cheese if you like. Serve immediately.

I usually toss any add-ins in at this stage and adjust seasoning with Italian seasoning or garlic powder to taste.
