Lemon butter salmon seasoned with Everything-style seasoning has become a regular favorite in our kitchen. I follow a low-carb eating plan, and salmon is an ideal protein to keep on hand. It contains virtually no carbohydrates and provides a satisfying, flavorful base for quick weekday meals or relaxed weekend dinners. Roast it, pan-sear it, or bake it—salmon cooks quickly and pairs beautifully with simple sides like roasted vegetables, sautéed greens, or a crisp salad.
What seasonings go well with salmon?
Everything-style seasoning, similar to the popular “Everything but the Bagel” blend, is one of our go-to choices because it adds savory crunch and bold flavor without extra carbs. Beyond that, a number of herbs and spice combinations complement salmon: fresh or dried dill brightens the fish without overpowering it; rosemary gives an earthy, aromatic note; classic lemon and pepper is clean and bright; and a touch of prepared horseradish or a grainy mustard can add a pleasant bite. Use what you enjoy and don’t be afraid to be generous with seasoning—salmon stands up well to bold flavors.

Is everything seasoning salmon OK on keto?
Yes. This preparation is well suited to a ketogenic diet: salmon is naturally low in carbohydrates and high in healthy fats and protein. Many keto-friendly recipes use salmon because it provides a rich, satisfying component that pairs easily with low-carb vegetables like zucchini, broccoli, or leafy greens. The lemon and butter contribute flavor and fat, while the Everything-style seasoning adds texture and savory notes. If you follow paleo or Whole30, the same basic approach can also work, depending on your specific ingredients and dietary preferences.

Salmon is a fast, reliable protein for a busy lifestyle. A small number of steps yields a flavorful main dish with minimal effort: a drizzle of melted butter, a generous sprinkle of seasoning, a squeeze of lemon, and a short bake or roast. The butter helps keep the fish moist while the lemon lifts the overall taste. This method works equally well for salmon steaks, fillets, or smaller portions—you only need to adjust cooking time to thickness.

How do you cook salmon?
Choose the best salmon you can find and aim for pieces of consistent thickness so they cook evenly. A simple guideline for baking is to cook the fish at a high temperature for a short time: about 5–6 minutes per half-inch of thickness at 450°F. Use an instant-read thermometer if you have one; the recommended internal temperature for cooked salmon is 145°F, measured at the thickest part. Check visually as well—the fish should flake easily with a fork and look opaque through the center.

Best Keto Seafood
Fish like salmon are excellent low-carb protein choices and are rich in vitamins and healthy fats. Shellfish vary: shrimp and crab are generally carb-free, while other shellfish such as clams, mussels, and oysters contain more carbohydrates. If you track macros closely, check labels or nutrition data for the specific seafood you choose. Still, seafood offers a wide range of textures and flavors to keep a low-carb menu interesting.

If you want ideas beyond salmon, other quick keto seafood recipes include tuna salads made with avocado and zucchini noodles, simple tuna cakes seasoned with Old Bay, cauliflower rice paired with shrimp, or lemon butter baked shrimp. Seafood is versatile and can be adapted to many low-carb preparations.

Everything Seasoning Lemon Butter Salmon
Ingredients
- 1 lb salmon (cut into 3 steaks)
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 3 tablespoons Everything-style seasoning
- 1 lemon
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). In an 8×8-inch baking dish, melt the 3 tablespoons of butter until it coats the bottom of the dish.
- Place the three salmon steaks side by side in the dish so each piece sits in the melted butter.
- Cut the lemon in half. Slice three thin rounds and place one slice on top of each salmon steak.
- Squeeze the remaining lemon juice over the salmon for a bright, tangy finish.
- Using a spoon or a baster if you have one, spoon some of the melted butter over the tops of the salmon so each piece is lightly braised.
- Bake at 450°F. Cook for approximately 5–6 minutes per half-inch of thickness. Check for doneness at the thickest part of the fish; it should flake easily and be opaque through the center.
