RE: 7th Annual LET THEM EAT CAKE! event on May 19, 2012

The Midwife Center for Birth & Women’s Health presents the 7th Annual “Let Them Eat Cake!” on Saturday, May 19, 2012, from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. at the Pittsburgh Opera. Bakers and cake decorators from the Pittsburgh area will submit cakes to be judged by a panel of experts. Attendees will cast votes for the People’s Choice Awards in Best Taste and Best Decorated Cake categories. Winners for Best Overall Taste and Best Decorated Cake will be featured in TABLE Magazine’s summer issue and will each receive a $100 Whole Foods gift certificate.

This year’s theme, “1982: Birth of a Dream Come True,” celebrates The Midwife Center’s 30th anniversary as the region’s only licensed, freestanding birth center. Entrants in both Taste and Decoration categories are encouraged to create cakes inspired by the theme—ideas include anniversaries, births, birthdays, 1980s motifs, or designs incorporating the number 30.

The evening will include appetizers, an open wine and beer bar, champagne tastings, and music by DJ Riel. A VIP reception immediately before the main event will feature a performance by a Resident Artist of the Pittsburgh Opera. Honorary committee members for the event include Christina French of Table Magazine, Councilmen Patrick Dowd and Bill Peduto, and State Representatives Dan Frankel and Joe Petrarca. UPMC Mercy sponsors the event at the “Anniversary Cake” level.

Tickets and additional information are available from The Midwife Center at 412-321-6884. Net proceeds benefit The Midwife Center for Birth & Women’s Health.
