Ingredients needed for a seafood bake:

This recipe uses crab legs, lobster claws, shrimp, red potatoes, corn, and a buttery Cajun sauce with Old Bay. It’s easy to adapt — many people add andouille sausage or boiled eggs. If you use sausage, add it while the potatoes cook.

How long to bake a seafood boil?

Seafood cooks quickly, so the bake only needs about 20 minutes in the oven after the ingredients are assembled. Potatoes and corn are pre-cooked so everything finishes evenly in the Cajun butter sauce.

FAQs for this recipe

Can I switch up the seafood in the recipe?

Yes — add mussels, clams, calamari, or more shrimp if you prefer. Crab legs can be omitted or replaced with your favorite shellfish.

Can I leave out the sugar in a seafood bake?

You can omit the sugar, though a small amount helps balance the seasonings without making the dish sweet.

Can I use pre-cooked shrimp for this recipe?

Fresh or raw shrimp are recommended. Pre-cooked shrimp can overcook during baking and become tough.

Ingredients

  • 1 c unsalted butter, two sticks
  • 2 lemons
  • 8 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 lbs crab legs
  • 1/2 pound shrimp, shell on or off
  • 4 lobster claws, optional — can substitute more shrimp or mussels
  • 4 red potatoes, quartered
  • 2 corn on the cob, halved
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 tbsp Old Bay seasoning, hot or regular
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, or regular paprika
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Parsley for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large pot, bring about 4 quarts of water to a boil. Add the quartered potatoes and boil for 10 minutes. Add the corn and cook 5 more minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the minced garlic and cook 1 minute until fragrant. Stir in the Cajun seasoning, Old Bay, smoked paprika and sugar. Cook 1–2 minutes to bloom the spices, then add the juice of one lemon and stir. Remove from heat.
  • Using two 13×9 pans or baking sheets, arrange the crab legs, shrimp, lobster claws, potatoes and corn. Pour the butter sauce evenly over the seafood and vegetables. Cover each pan tightly with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  • Remove the pans from the oven, switch the oven to broil, uncover the pans and return them to the oven for 3–5 minutes to brown and finish the seafood.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley and lemon slices. Serve immediately and enjoy.
