I’ll be honest: when my friends chose Galveston for our annual girl’s weekend, I wasn’t thrilled at first. I had pictured a typical cruise port and had been leaning toward somewhere international.   • William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) in Houston is about a 45-minute drive to Galveston, making it an affordable and convenient flight option from many U.S. cities.
  • Renting a car is recommended to explore the island at your own pace—Galveston covers a fair amount of ground.
  • Shuttle services and taxis are available; ride-share apps have resumed service on the island.
